Professor Emerita, Created an Endowed Trumpet Scholarship

Acknowledged as the first woman trumpeter in a major symphony orchestra, Marie Speziale retired from the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra in November of 1996 after having served as its Associate Principal Trumpet for thirty-two years. Since retiring from the orchestra, she has remained active as a performer, teacher and clinician.

She has performed with St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, the Florida Symphony Orchestra, Colorado Symphony and the Louisiana Symphony Orchestra. She has flown to California to do studio recordings for the television series Star Trek: Voyager, at Paramount and 20th Century Fox studios. As a professor, she has taught at The Jacobs School of Music, Indiana University, CCM's Opera Theatre and Music Festival and Spoletto in Italy along with the Round Top International Festival Institute in Texas. Recently she retired as professor emerita with The Shepherd School of Music at Rice University where she performed regularly with the Houston Grand Opera, Symphony and Ballet.

She has served as President and on the Board of Directors of the International Women's Brass Conference and is currently on the Board of the Classical Music Hall of Fame. She is also a member of the International Trumpet Guild, Sigma Alpha Iota, Pi Kappa Lambda and Cincinnati MacDowell Society and has won many awards and honors.
